Budapest Attractions

These attractions are buildings and landmarks that you simple need to see, because they are stunning.

St. Stephens Basilica
We have always been big fans of the St. Stephens Basilica. It has a beautiful exterior and interior. From the square outside the church it is possible to make magnificent pictures, from the dome you can enjoy the best view available on the Pest side, and inside you can enjoy the mixture of prayer, organ music and beautiful paintings, sculptures and much more! St. Stephens Basilica is in our eyes the most beautiful church in all of Budapest! Majestic both on the inside and the outside.

Hungarian Parliament
The Hungarian Parliament might be the most impressive of all buildings in Budapest. It is located by the Danube and it reminds quite a lot about the Parliament in London. As you watch the building from the outside you will be extremely impressed, but do not make the mistake to think that you have seen it once your bus or taxi has driven next to it during daytime. It is when the lights are turned on in the evening it turns into one of the most beautiful buildings Europe has to offer. One of the nicest Parliament buildings in the world can be found in Budapest

Heroes Square
If you want an introduction to the history of Hungary, bring a guide book or a guide with you to the Heroes Square. The square is beautiful both during daytime and nighttime, but be aware of the fact that in the hottest months it is hard to be out on the square for more than 5-10 minutes. The monuments and the statues at the square are delightful, and the two wonderful museums at both sides of the square just gives a plus to it all. The best place to get an introduction to the history of Hungary, the Heroes Square

Chain Bridge
If you buy a postcard from Budapest, it is very possible that the Chain Bridge is the landmark you will see on it. The bridge is first of all a favorite object to photograph when it is illuminated in the evening, and it is also the oldest bridge connecting Pest with Buda. Beautiful, and almost impossible to miss out on when in Budapest.

Castle Hill
We realize that the Castle Hill in fact is a hill and not one attraction, so it is kind of tricky. However, as we write the Castle Hill as an attraction it includes the castle building itself, but also the Matthias Church and the Fishermens Bastion. The Matthias Church is beautiful, and its location next to the Fishermens Bastion is perfect.

Philosopher’s Garden
This attraction is closer than you think; it is located on the other, not too-visited side of the Gellért Hill. The approach is easier than it sounds like, you just need to go to Pest bridgehead of the Elisabeth Bridge, where you can find a bus stop (8,112) and go one station with it to Sánc Street. From here you need to walk a little on the street with the same name as the bus stop and the Philosopher’s Garden is immediately on the left side. The little green place got its name from the statue group, which image the world’s most famous philosophers in one circle. Visitor could meet with the statue of Jesus, Buddha, Mohamed, and Gandhi too. Besides this we can’t forget the fantastic panorama which shows the whole capital.

Normafa
This is a huge and beautiful place on the Buda side. The approach is not complicated neither, you just need to go with the bus 21 or 21A from Széll Kálmán Square, exactly from Várfok Street. Be careful, the 21’s bus final station is not the destination that you are looking for, check the station list. From the Normafa station it is just half minute and you suddenly see the panorama of the capital from Buda perspective. There is everything here: buffet, strudel, kindergarten, nature and peace.

Feneketlen Lake
This artificial lake located a little bit out of the center, but it is still easy to get here, because it is just five minute walk or one stop with tram 61 from Móricz Zsigmond Square. You can walk around the little lake, lie down on the grass, there are duck food machines and the most important: green is around you. Moreover there is a great restaurant near to the Feneketlen Lake, the Hemingway Restaurant. Besides this there is a fantastic kindergarten next to Feneketlen Lake.

János Hill Lookout Tower
The János Hill Viewpoint is for those who like hiking. The easiest way to reach the János Hill Viewpoint is from Normafa by foot with the help of hiking signs; you can read about these more on the external tables. If you reach the little bit sweaty but beautiful trip’s destination, you just need to climb stairs to see the breathtaking view. You can see everything from this place! Of course there is a buffet here too, so you can have a little rest and a drink after the “mountaineering”. The most special and easiest runoff from the hill is with the Libegő (Chairlift). Underway the whole city unfold in front of you.

Szent Istvan Park
This hidden place is perfect especially for families. The Park has two parts: a smaller with kindergarten and a bigger one, which is a beautiful garden with fountains and amazing flowers. The approach of this place is not complicated, you just need to go to Jászai Mari Square and it is just five minute walk on the street next to McDonald’s, the Pozsonyi Street, at the end of the walk you straightly run into the Szent István Park. Next to the Park there is a lovely restaurant, the Duna Park, here you can have an ice cream, a coffee or anything what you want. Otherwise the whole area is family friend and safe. There are lots of restaurants, pastry shops, café shop and lovely little shops in the district. Advantage for dog keepers; next to the Park there is a safely fenced and well equipped dog running too.

Danube Cruise
The river that is separating Buda from Pest is very important in the life of the people of Hungary. In old days they even arranged balls on the ice! Now they no longer arrange such things, but with a boat you can enjoy a nice trip on the Danube. There are many different options and ways to do such a trip, but we really do recommend that everyone try it out. It is for sure best to do it in the evening so that you can enjoy the illuminated buildings and bridges, but it is of course possible to do Danube Cruise during daytime. There are trips everyday at 14:00, 19:00 and 22:00. Dinner is served on all trips (buffet) and on the 19:00 boat you can enjoy live gipsy music in addition. The boat leaving at 22:00 is a beautiful possibility to enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner!

JTC Coaches Interviews

Barry Greer Head Coach U20

Where were you born and where did you grow up the majority of your childhood?
I was born in Cobourg, Ontario, moved to Belleville Ontario at age 18 and I have lived here ever since

When did you get into ball hockey?
I started playing in the Belleville men's league after I moved to Belleville. It was a sport that was not available when I lived in Cobourg.

Where did you gain the passion for the sport?
Probably when I coached my first Provincial game for Belleville for my son's Tyke team about 15 years ago.

Who were some of your biggest influences in your life that helped you growing up with the sport?
Rick Carr, President of Belleville Minor Ball Hockey was a team mate back in the days when I started playing. He started up the minor system in Belleville and when I had kids it was natural for them to start playing at a young age.

What turned you on to competitive ball hockey? How old were you when you played/participated in your first tournament?
My kids played rep ice hockey all winter and wanted to play rep soccer in the summer. No way I was going to chase them around the province all summer too. I found not only the shorter season and less travel attractive with ball hockey but the different rules and fact that so many different strategies and systems could be used in ball hockey appealed to me more as a coach. My kids were Novice and Tyke ages at the time.

How did you get involved with the Junior Team Canada program?
After coaching rep at the provincial level every year and at the National level three times my wife and I watched our 2 boys play for Team Canada in Europe. It was after this that I decided that applying for a coaching position was something I would like to do. I believed I had the ability and the experience to be successful at that level.

There is a lot of work to get done, what do you think your team will have to do to get this done?
Everyone must start by communicating and getting to know each other, then study and practice systems and plays, then work together and settle into a role on the team while the whole time developing an attitude that we are the greatest. Then to remain the greatest everyone must communicate more, study and practice more, work together more and want to accept more responsibility in order to be even greater then great.

What's your goal for the Junior program next summer and for future years?
My goals is to win a Gold Medal at the World Championships in Budapest in 2014 with the U-20 Canadian team. As long as I stay involved with ball hockey, my health stays good and I feel I give value to the team as a coach then I would love to continue coaching at a high level. I appreciate the opportunity that I has been trusted in me so far.

Do you think Canada has the talent to win the gold medal?
Of course I do, we feel we have the most skilled team we could put together and don’t lack talent, but we still need to have determination and work ethics. We will find a way to get it done!

Scott Jacobi Head Coach U18

Where were you born and where did you grow up the majority of your childhood?
Born – Toronto East York
Raised – Brampton
First ball hockey - Beeton

When did you get into ball hockey?
I got involved as a player in 2002 in Beeton

I began coaching in 2004 in Beeton and attended 1st Provincials as a coach (and as a player) that year

Where did you gain the passion for the sport?
I’d never even heard of ball hockey until I moved to Beeton and was introduced to the game by my neighbours Carlo Carlucci & Steve Dockerty. I’d played ice hockey all my life and immediately enjoyed the game, and with my involvement in the Beeton program, I quickly grew passionate about the sport and improving our Association.

Who were some of your biggest influences in your life that helped you growing up with the sport?
Carlo & Steve were my neighbours and got me involved as a player, and subsequently an official and as an executive. Our shared vision on running the league and developing players and the program fed my passion.

What turned you on to competitive ball hockey? How old were you when you played/participated in your first tournament?
My first playing tournament was at the 2004 Masters Provincials First Provincials as a coach were the 2004 tykes

How did you get involved with the Junior Team Canada program?
Administratively I was responsible for our Provincial program which had improved steadily thought my tenure to the point where we are now recognized as a dominant Centre at all ages.

Teams I’ve coached in Beeton have had good success at the Provincial AA level (winning AA gold in my last 4 provincials 2 PW & 2 Bantam). In 2010 I coached and won at the Provincials, Ontario Summer Games, and National Championship in the same summer, and coincident with the JTC application process, Steve Dockerty suggested I apply to coach. In 2012 I was named to the JTC U16 staff for my first participation in the program, winning Bronze.

There is a lot of work to get done, what do you think your team will have to do to get this done?
Success at the Worlds will depend on a few key elements

- Players need to assume responsibility to attend in peak condition
- Players need to be comfortable with each other and become a Team
- We’ll need to be good enough to get lucky

Until we play our first exhibition games and camp opens, individually players will need to focus on getting in shape and reaching out to all of their teammates, the sooner we get to know and be comfortable with each other, the sooner we can start to think and act as a team.

As a coach, I will continue to have regular communication in the hopes of keeping everyone informed, up to date, and in contact.

What's your goal for the Junior program next summer and for future years?
The goal is simple, to win GOLD!

In terms of the program, I think there have been a number of rather significant administrative changes this time round not the least of which is allowing the coaches to have significant impact on the selection of the roster, thereby creating a team of 22 that fulfill roles and specialties on the floor, rather than simply being the top players. It is my hope that success at World’s will prove this to be a good decision, and allow for its continuation in future years.

Individually, aside from helping the guys win gold, my goal is to try and not cause too many problems and remain a part of the program for years to come helping to do what I can to improve and advance the program.

Do you think Canada has the talent to win the gold medal?
Compared to my team in 2012, this team is significantly improved.

The competition is always strong, and this year there may be many teams we have never seen, but I would be surprised if there was a team anywhere in the world that has the depth of talent and skill sets that can compare to this U18 team. Talent and skill however are just the foundation and do not alone guarantee victory, it is my hope and belief that this group of players also have the character, discipline, and commitment necessary to complement their talent that combined will ultimately bring Canada home a gold medal (that and some decent officiating!)

The 2013 World Ball Hockey Championships

Bruce Huff (Toronto Star Columnist) aptly described 'Our Game' with reverence and clarity. He said, "Ball hockey. On the street, in the gym, on the arena floors is simply a slice of Canadiana..."

Well, Canada...let us invite the world to come and play 'Our Game' in the home of one of the oldest and most prestigious buildings in National Hockey League history.

Maple Leaf Gardens

....although, before we look any further forward towards this monumental event, let us take a moment and go back in time.....

It is May 2, 1967.....

"...Three seconds...two...one...the game is over! The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the Stanley Cup!" (Bill Hewett: CBC Hockey Night in Canada broadcaster)

Bill Hewitt in the broadcast booth

The Toronto Maple Leafs (owned and operated by Stafford Smythe, John Bassett and the infamous Harold Ballard) under the tutalege of Mssr. George 'Punch' Imlach, are playing against Les Canadiens, the most reverred franchise in the National Hockey League (NHL) in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at Maple Leaf Gardens . The 'Boys in Blue' are up three games to two in the championship series and lead 2-1 late in the third period of the contest when the epilogue to this epic chapter in hockey history would be finally written and later chronicled for years to come.

The net is empty...and you can still hear Bill Hewitt's voice resonate like it was only yesterday calling the play-by-play with less than a minute to go in the game...

"...Its electrifying here at Maple Leaf Gardens at the moment...

Here we go for the face-off...
The Leafs have (Allan) Stanley, (Red) Kelly, (Bob) Pulford, (Tim) Horton and (George) Armstrong...
Stanley talks to Kelly...
The puck is dropped. Kelly up to Pulford...Pulford gets it up to Armstrong...
Armstrong waits...takes a shot...he scores!

Johnny Bower making a save in the 1967 Stanley Cup finals versus the Canadiens

Brian McFarlane (CBC Colour Commentator), along side Mr. Hewitt in the 'Gondola' high above the Garden's ice, can barely contain his excitement as he goes on to describe the events and euphoria on the ice and in the stands...

"...a wild finish...the players jump on the ice!...there are 47 seconds left to play...3-1 Toronto...Armstrong, the Leafs captain, gets a goal in the empty net...everybody is up and standing and cheering...all the Leaf fans here at the Gardens...programs are on the ice...players swarmed over the boards..."

"It would appear to be the insurance goal the Leafs were looking for...still 47 seconds left to play, but it would appear to be the goal the Leafs needed to win the Stanley Cup!"

And with that, the fans began the final countdown...10!...9!...8!...and completed by Hewitt's heightened tone for the viewers at home...

"...Three seconds...two...one...the game is over! The Toronto Maple Leafs have won the Stanley Cup!"

McFarlane continued to describe the event with child like enthusiam....

"....What a tremendous hockey game this was...Fantastic!

...Look at the Leafs mobTerry Sawchuk...Johnny Bower is one of the first over the boards...number 27 Frank Mahovolich...and there is George Armstrong who scored the insurance goal...and Mike Walton...Bobby Baun...and Eddy Shack...Punch Imlach is out there shaking hands with his players..."

"...Peter Stemkowski throws Imlach's hat high into the air!"

The Canadians are lined up for the ceremonial hand shake and Toe Blake comes over to congratulate Punch Imlach.

"...(Red) Kelly and (Tim) Horton embrace each other..."

As the celebration continued and as history would have it, John Ferguson and Jean Beliveau would be the last to leave the ice (for the Canadians) as the Leafs remained poised to claim their prize...and with that, NHL President Clarence Campbell would be introduced to make the presentation of the Stanley Cup to captain George Armstrong at center ice.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is now my great pleasure, duty and responsibility to present the Stanley Cup to the Maple Leaf Hockey Club for the 11th time"

Captain George Armstrong ushered his son Brian up with him to accept the Stanley Cup to help him raise it above his head in victory.

As the championship bubbly was being poured into Lord Stanley's Mug, Hockey Night in Canada host Ward Cornell spoke with Maple Leaf defenseman Tim Horton about the magnitude of the team's accomplishment and what it meant to the allstar defenseman...

"...Its pretty hard not to get emotionally involved when you're in the Stanley Cup...its the ultimate for a hockey player...what you live for...it was the happiest moment when Army scored that third goal...I wanted to start crying..."

Since that moment in time there has been nary a replica of a trophy with such reverance or significance in sports history, nor a cup sought after by so many, but raised in triumph by so few, in that very place where the fans were loud and "The Chief" stood proud, underneath the scoreboard at center ice in the Maple Leaf Gardens....

Until now.....

WHERE THE WORLD UNITES for the World Ball Hockey Championships in June 2013 at the heritage site known as the Mattamy Athletic Center at The Gardens on 60 Carleton St. Toronto Canada.

The event approaches with an air of breathless anticipation and an unprecedented level of energy and enthusiam from everyone involved as the best mens and womens nations in the sport of ball hockey plan, prepare and pack their bags to travel from various continental divides to play on the world's largest stage for the game's biggest prize.

It will be the first time since 1967 that a major championship trophy of global magnitude and importance will be presented in what some would equate to as the middle of the living room floor in the house that Conn Smythe built.

On Sunday June 9....one nation will stand alone and accept the 2013 World Championship trophy emblematic of global 'orange ball' supremacy in the middle of the floor where George 'The Chief' Armstrong stood and raised La Coupe Stanley.

It will undoubtedley be an event for the ages and one that will be remembered for generations to come... Hence, as former wrestler, promoter and ringside announcer Billy 'Red' Lyons (Maple Leaf Wrestling) would say....

"Don't you dare miss it!"

Team India Interview - Dampy Brar

Mr. Dampy Brar from Team India is one of the finest players the sport has seen and he sat down for an interview in preparation for the 2013 World Ball Hockey Championships:

1) Who is the staff comprised of? GM, HC, AC, RMT, Equipment, DR?
We have a four person panel consisting of Sim Gosal, Smiter Kaila, Ranbir Singh and myself.  Gosal and Singh are the coaches and Kaila and myself are the co-captains.

2) Has your team been selected? if not, what is the process/criteria being used for the selection of players
The team is in the final phase of the selection process.  This will be the first time Team India is selected without a camp.  However, we use the provincials, nationals and the various Indo Cup as scouting opportunities to evaluate players.  The criteria to play for Team India is to meet the guidelines set forth by the governing body.  This may include: heritage, citizenship, etc of India.

3) If your nation has named the team, who are some of your key players?
The key players include 2009 world all stars Smiter Kaila, Harp Kalkat, Rav Hundal and in addition will include Sharny Kaila, Dampy Brar, JK Gill, Par Sidhu and Turab Bokhari.  However, to win gold we recognize we will need every player to make a significant contribution...including unsung heros who do all the little things it takes to win.

4) What style of play will your team execute?
We play a controlled game with emphasis on team play through all 3 zones.  We will work hard and use a combination of skill, speed, size and effort to make ourselves difficult to beat.

5) What are your teams expectations?
We expect to win a medal.  We understand the line between winning and losing is marginal but feel if we play at the top of our game then gold is within reach.

6) How many training sessions/exhibition games will the club compete in before the WC’s?
We will organize the team together 2 days before the tournament for multiple practice sessions.  similar to what we did in 2009.  The challenge is we have players from all over which makes it difficult to gather the entire team in advance of the championships.

7) What have been your greatest challenges to date? ie. sponsorship
Some of our other challenges include gathering the team for camp or practice sessions due to proximity.  Also, reviving support after the roller coaster of 2009 when we won the silver medal and then were not able to participate in the next championships.

We are looking forward to reigniting the passion where we left off.

Interview Of Zoltan Pavelka of Hungary

What does it mean for your players to go to Toronto Canada for the WC?
It means a lot to participate in a WC, for every athlete, as well for our ball hockey players. Between the 2 world championships, men and women, the players are preparing, training, struggling in the league to show the coaches that they deserve to have a place on the national team.

What training are you making with your players to be prepared for the challenge?
Most of the players are part of other sports like field hockey, floorball, ice hockey, which gives them the right condition; they can join the preparation at a later stage. Fortunately there are already some players with ball hockey as their major sport; they prepare the whole year. The national team will regularly meet from the middle of March on a weekly basis to prepare for Toronto. We are planning to organize friendly matches with Slovakian teams and we would like to invite the Slovakian team to Szekesfehervar which would be not only good for preparation but this would also to promote the sport.

How many players will you bring for the men and for the women's teams?
The high costs have unfortunately a big impact on our possibilities. We are planning to have 18-22 players per team at both, the Men's and the Women's WC. At the Women's WC we would like to surprise everyone, which would mean even the possibility to win a medal. We would like to bring a much stronger men's team than we did in Bratislava in 2011.

Do you hope for some local fan support of Hungarians in Canada?
A lot of Hungarians live in Canada, mostly in Toronto. We will definitely look for the Hungarian community there, to gain their support for the WC.

Is the sport growing in Hungary?
Ball hockey started in 2011 in Hungary. At that time 6 male and 3 female teams participated in the Hungarian Cup. In 2012 we had already 9 men and 4 women teams and the number of players increased as well. We organized the national league from May till September. In the national league we had more than 200 players this year.

What are the goals for Hungary for the next five years? Maybe hosting a WBHF event in future?
Our main goal is to promote ball hockey in Hungary. To be able to become an official sport association, we need 3 finished national leagues, at least 10 official clubs and 150 registered players, according to the Hungarian law. The third national league will be finished in 2013. Not all of the clubs are officially registered yet, they have to correct this, but we have enough players.

From 2013 we will start the "little ball hockey" (4v4). We expect from this, that the ball hockey would be played all year long and smaller teams could join the system.

We are planning to organize the first junior national league in 2013 (U18 and U14).

We would like to expand the season, from the current 4 months to 7-8 months.

We are interested in connecting with the neighboring countries, with Serbia, Austria and we would like to expand our good relationship with Slovakia.

We are hoping that in 2015 we can have 2 leagues for the men and we also hope that the women league will be stronger with more teams, and also that we can regularly organize the junior league.

Our national team will participate in all WBHF events! Our aim is to get the chance to organize a WBHF event. The European Championships, which was promised to us in 2003 by ISBHF, but was cancelled during the congress in February - a big disappointment for us. We lost some supporters, but we would like to prove to the international ball hockey society that we can organize a WBHF event. It would be a great chance to promote ball hockey in Hungary.

Team Slovakia Announces Camp

The beautiful historic venue of Mojmirovce castle in Nitra (www.kastielmojmirovce.sk) will be home to the players nominated to attend camp, which will be held from 1.18-1.20 2013. The three day event will feature intense training and in class strategizing, followed daily by leisure time in the pool and sauna.

The invited players include the top stars in Slovakia including:

Marek Kanich, Vladimír Kalis, Marián Mikulčík, Jozef Minárik, Branislav Thron, Róbert Kašša, Milan Ladiver /ospravedlnil sa z dôvodu pracovnej vyťaženosti/, Milan Beniač, Lukáš Lajčiak, Dušan Danko, Ján Rímsky, Michal Hrivnák, Libor Teplický, Martin Haring, Filip Titka, Ivan Káčer, Marían Kučerka, Michal Ecker, Erik Lvomský, Matúš Lipták, Michal Ľupták, Ondrej Hraško, Filip Cajchan

The impressive group looks to return the World Championship title to Slovakia by competing in the WBHF Men’s World Championship in Toronto, Canada, June 2013. Included in this collection of national all-stars is Branilsav (Riko) Thron, recently named the #1 player in Slovakia.

Fresh off his victory in the poll, we bring you an abridged version of this interview.
What was the deciding factor for your lead in the poll? "I do not have any information on how the vote actually took place. Certainly me, however the overall victory, I believe it was because the successful past season with the LG, where I became a champion of Slovakia and European Cup runner-up clubs, and some good results in Nitre. '

If you had a vote, who would you choose and why? "Slovakia has a lot of great players and it might be difficult to choose between them, but if I have to choose one, it would have been Jožko Minárik from LG TPS BA. I think this is probably the best defender in Slovakia and not only for sports but also character traits, but as I mentioned, we have a lot of good players. "
For many years you were an icon at Doprastav Bratislava. Before the season, you transferred to the rookie club of Nitra, which was for many a big shock. Why this change? "Yes, those years spent in Doprastav I will never forget, but sometimes life has change, and I got a good offer from Nitra. I decided to accept it and now I do not regret it at all because they are a good team and I met a number of great players and not only the most experienced, but also those who I have not seen play before. "
Finally, something of privacy, what is the difference between Branislav Thron ten years ago and today? "First of all, I have about ten years more (smile). Sure I am not so volatile and turbulent as it once before, but it's really about age. Especially since I now need more time for recovery, but I am still basically the same. There is also my taste for the sport and to win, and probably the most essential difference from ten years ago is that I no longer use hair gel (smile). "
Your jersey has always been adorned with number 18. What does this number mean to you? "It is true that I am eighteen basically from scratch. Yet when we played as juniors in L. Guerera league, I wore 21, when we changed the" old "jerseys I inherited number 18 when Vlad Franta went to seniors. When I then went to the seniors, it was free. Henceforth I wear it now and I quite like it. "
Recently, the family has been enriched by one member, daughter Tami. No plans in the near future for her to be a successor Hokejbalový Thronovcov clan? "Truly, the time is running fast and Taminka is already three years. I'm happy here. It seems she has a really decent stick technique already. Currently there is no plan for her to follow, but we'll see. Time will tell.“

An interview with Jaroslav Melíšek one of the founders of WBHF

In recent days, came an awareness of the activity of a newly created World Ball Hockey Federation. A lot of questions hang in the air and that is why we contacted one of its founders.

The name Jaroslav Melíšek again swirls in the surface waters of the ball hockey. Former President of the Slovak Union Street & Ball Hockey not too happy with his office, resigned this post. After a few weeks, his name is heard everywhere again. He was in fact ending his time with the International Street & Ball Hockey Federation similarly as was its long-time president Domenico Di Gironimo, which later brought the birth of the new. This of course caused great resentment among ISBHF. However, we particularly interested in answers to questions about the organization of the World Cup in Toronto and Bratislava.

Recently causing a stir was the development of another World Federation, the WBHF. Why was it created?
"Turmoil? I think that only exists in the ISBHF, it really doesn't impact current ball hockey players. Quite the contrary, there will be more opportunities for competition at an international level. WBHF formed in the summer at Niagara Falls, Canada. It was a consequence of the USA not being satisfied with the ISBHF and its recent work, especially at the World Junior Championship, while in Canada there was a separation of the Ontario Ball Hockey Association, the strongest organization in the world, away from the Canadian Association, and my general dissatisfaction with the pace of development of the sport."

What is your response to the emergence of the ISBHF prohibition?
"It doesn’t matter that they have marked us as persona non grata and banned us go to ISBHF ball hockey events. I don’t think this is even worth commenting on. For me this announcement just provoked me to be even more active and do everything possible for the WBHF to become the world leader in the sport within three years. "

What is your relationship now with the Slovak Union hockey ball?
"Excellent (smile)!. SHbÚ body limits Slovak hockey and always will."

How do you feel about ISBHF banned you to participate in any events organized ISBHF?
"It's an honor. This step shows that we are winning the battle. Positive I see it. From Martin, Zilina Nitra, I have already been called (smile), and they share a curiosity of the ISBHF. I think ISBHF lost face and cast itself now as an unreliable and of little integrity on the world stage."

Are you not afraid that a similar step will be taken by the SHBÚ? Your "activity" in WBHF probably does not thrill them.
"No, I do not care. If it did, it would embarrass them even more than they already are. Conversations I have many friends from hockey ball, most members condemn their actions and find the ISBHF laughable. They cannot ban anyone from anything because they do not give anything to anyone. "

WBHF organizes World Ball Hockey in Toronto at the same time as ISBHF in St. Johns. It was the intention?
"No, it is the traditional time, and of no concern to us. For me, the ISBHF organization is dead. We'll go our own way and do not need someone to confront. We have a vision and goals and we focus on managing them. We are introducing a new World Championship for 3 +1 and change some of the rules, which are very necessary. We have also cancelled all annual fees for the National Federations because there is only a tremendous waste of money in the other organization, which we intend to avoid. "

Website WBHF states that the World Cup will participate with many countries, even India and Italy who were missing at the World Championships in Bratislava. Is it really true?
"I can confirm that the two countries are strong and will be in Toronto. In addition we expect new countries: Croatia, China, Korea, Japan and Serbia."

Many people have been asking about what choices as if they are not all just sort of B-choices?
"It's not. The very best will be in Toronto. Slovakia will be in Toronto also with a very strong team."

How then will work on the above-mentioned selection for Team Slovakia After all, it must still require some resources, focus, coach ... And it does not finance itself.
"Everything is prepared for the 30-member Slovak choice. Organizer also caters to us in terms of accommodation. Givova company even provides for all selections jerseys free. But there's more."

Who actually chooses Team Slovakia "an umbrella"? The Union will still have their choice in the St. John's.
"This is a moment in the solutions we are discussing. This question will therefore answer later."

Do you already have an idea of who will represent Slovakia in Toronto?
"He'll lead a professional coach and they will be choosing a very strong team."

WBHF also organizes the World Cup in a "small" Ball Hockey, ie 3 +1 system. Where was this idea born?
"Street Hockey 3 +1 has a great tradition in many countries, both played. Therefore also the way you say" small "deserves its hockey world championship. ISBHF this system has so far refused, we therefore decided to organize a World Cup debut in Bratislava with a tournament of 16 teams will participate in the senior category and 8 in the Masters category. Teams will come from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Hungary, China, Japan, Sweden, Finland, Canada, United States, India, Pakistan, Portugal and others, even Mexico. "

Is there so much interest in this type of WC?
"Of course, the cost will be reduced compared to conventional WC by about 70percent. Indeed, the tournament will be just nine or ten players per team, which are the three cars for travel, for European countries."

After quitting as the president SHBÚ have declared that you have quit Ball Hockey, what convinced you to return?
"I convinced Domenic DiGironimo and Chris Housser that Street & Ball Hockey needs guarantee of quality work. Adding Dampy Brar from India inspired me. The WBHF had recent success introducing the teaching of ball hockey at high schools in the Chinese city of Tianjin that has 15 million people. This is our first such success. I trust that others will come.

Interview With Slovak Women's Coach Marián Ferčák

How will you select your team for the World Championships in Toronto?
“Representation will be made up of the best female players which we cannot yet specify because the team has yet to be created. We have raised most of the funding required for the travel and now must select the team. We will search for players with heart to ensure success. We could add some young players but promising success depends on their hearts being tuned and fighting for success.”

How will they train?
“Preparation will be just before the World Cup, after consultation with our implementation team and their recommendations, we will decide on the length and details. I would like to add Meliska Alina to our staff. I believe that you should not impose so much on women players. It is more important to focus on power-play and rehearse break-out variations.”

What are your goals for the World Cup?
“No coach is on the World Cup team that does not strive for success, therefore I believe only in setting the top target as our goals. Each medal is a success but the defense of the Gold would be great and I believe that with our implementation team we will succeed.”

Who do you favour to win the title?
“Which coach would not believe in their own team, but Canada will be very strong at home. I hope our great Slovak hearts will favour Slovakia.”

Have you been to Canada before?
“I have not personally been in this wonderful country because of the salary in Eastern Slovakia we cannot afford, so it will be a great honor to be a member of the expedition which participates in the World Championships in Canada and to be a member of a successful team.”

Slovakia is the women’s world champion, what does it means to you?
“It's a huge challenge for me as a coach to repeat this success but we have to go from match to match and gradually reach the top where the title is the prize.”

What do you know about your opponents in WC?
“We cannot underestimate any opponent since at the World Cup everyone wants to achieve success and especially to defeat the reigning champion but I believe that the implementation team, along with their recommendations, the girls will do anything for ultimate success. It will be uncomfortable against the U.S. and the Canadians at home but I believe we can do it.”
